Wrapped token

A token representing another asset on a different blockchain or in a different technical standard, redeemable for the original. Backing may be held by a custodian (e.g., WBTC, whose underlying BTC is held by a custodian and issued through authorised merchants) or locked in a bridge contract. WETH is a special case: an ERC-20 version of ETH on Ethereum itself.
